Judge Sondra Denmark was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court

Judge Sondra Nicole Denmark has spent her legal career as a zealous public servant who understands that integrity and fairness equate to justice for ALL. As a practicing attorney she consistently balanced the interests of all parties to ensure equitable justice was administered and took pride in having respectful working relationships with opposing counsel. These strides were noticed by the Illinois Supreme Court when Sondra was thoroughly vetted and found qualified to serve as a judge by a dozen bar associations which subsequently led to her being appointed as a Circuit Judge for the Second Judicial Subcircuit of Cook County.

Judge Sondra Denmark spent her primary years on the Southside of Chicago before her family moved to the south suburbs where she is now raising her own children. Raised in a union household, Sondra learned as a child the need to fight for equality. As a great-niece of the late Reverend Addie Wyatt, fighting for equality is in her genes and she continues Wyatt’s legacy by providing justice to all as a Cook County judge.

After graduating from Governors State University, Judge Denmark enrolled at Northern Illinois University-College of Law where she was the President of the Black Law Students Association and was an Assistant to the Director of Admissions for minority recruitment. As a result of her leadership skills, she was bestowed the Thurgood Marshall Award for her graduating class. Her passion to serve the public led her to a career as a public servant who protected our families and communities.

As a practicing attorney, Judge Denmark worked diligently in making sure all parties were treated fairly regardless of their race, color or financial status. She has always displayed an even temper and patience when preparing victims for trial, giving many the courage to face their assailant in court. Handling some of the most heinous crimes against our community, Judge Denmark excelled in litigation while practicing law in the circuit court. She earned the reputation of being courteous, fair and consistent.

As a wife to Tony and mother to Cameron and Catherine, your neighbor Judge Denmark is a dedicated advocate for families and children. After her daughter was diagnosed with Autism she became a zealous champion for children with special needs. Judge Denmark recognizes the importance of the immersion of the disabled into our communities and daily lives. She actively participates in south suburban support groups for special needs and prides herself on being a resource for parents who have children that are newly diagnosed, assisting them navigate the life and obstacles of the disabled.

Judge Denmark believes, “To whom much is given, much will be required.” As a result she mentors teens in her free time to motivate and encourage the next generation. Judge Denmark understands the importance for the next generation to see minority representation in the Circuit Court of Cook County.

As a member of Lilydale Progressive Baptist Church in Roseland, Judge Denmark is dedicated to the enrichment of her community. She educates seniors on protecting their assets and promoting financial security.
